Chris Kane 7/29/2019 3:40 AMoh my gosh - i just can't believe how fast time has gone - i'm super excited to see more actions which will inspire me in the future - today i'm going to message my team members and give them information on the "1 million actions" challenge sponsored by 1 million women so that they can continue their momentum if they choose to do so. EcoChallenge staff are amazing, aren't they? somehow with every challenge they continue to find new ways to keep us all going! -
Chris Kane 7/28/2019 8:02 PMWe're going down to the wire - i sure hope you've all enjoyed the challenge. I sure have. -
Chris Kane 7/27/2019 7:45 AMgood morning! i'm not sure if it was a member of our team or someone else who's participating in the challenge, but someone mentioned the film "Koyaanisqatsi" which translated from Hopi means "life out of balance"; the film was released in 1982; at first i wasn't sure what i was watching but after a few minutes it all came into place for me; it's a very moving film; it certainly does show "life out of balance"-
Beth Beek Blackford 7/28/2019 6:16 PMDifferent kind of movie, isn't it? The music is mesmerizing, and is what boosted this film into popularity.

Chris Kane 7/26/2019 6:32 AMWow - it's July 26th already................this month has flown by, hasn't it? What's your most memorable moment so far during this challenge? I known mine has been the realization that there's more I can do even though I thought I was doing so much already. It kinda snuck up on me.-
Beth Beek Blackford 7/28/2019 6:20 PMMost memorable moment was when I dropped everything to organize opposition to a big apartment complex going in behind my house! -
Marcia Booth 7/26/2019 11:41 AMThe week of July 15th. I will never forget my experience that week...

REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Watch a DocumentaryWhich documentary did you choose to watch? What did you learn?
Chris Kane 7/22/2019 6:43 PMI watched the Minimalislm documentary; i thought it was an excellent documentary in that it went into length explaining what minimalism is not. The background information Ryan & Joshua gave was very helpful in understanding how they both went down this path. -
Chris Kane 7/21/2019 7:55 AMwhat a beautiful morning here; looking at facebook sometimes makes me sad because i see all the news out there about how close we are to the tipping point on climate change; i have to pull myself away from it because i know that there are still so many things we, as individuals, can do to start turning things around; this challenge is the perfect example of just that; i've recently taken the bull by the horns and i'm totally revamping my eating habits - not to lose weight - but to improve my health, just like the planet! these challenges impact my life in many unexpected ways which is why i'm always excited when they come up
-
Chris Kane 7/20/2019 11:58 AMSo much to learn and share - i'm so lucky to have a great team which is focused and working so hard. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Takeout ProHow could you mitigate issues that may arise if the restaurant does not want to let you use your own containers at first?
Chris Kane 7/17/2019 2:27 AMAlways always be polite - being holier than though doesn't get you anywhere with businesses; i've never had this occur to me personally, but i imagine that i'd not take the leftovers to make the point of how important it is to me. if the situation was getting a take out order, if i knew before time that they'd refuse me using my own container, i wouldn't order there and let them know why.-
Chris Kane 7/18/2019 1:40 AMLinda, unfortunately i don't think there's much we can do when dealing with the Health Dept; we should keep an eye on Port St Java and when the ban is lifted have another go at them -
Linda Wenglikowski 7/17/2019 2:38 PMRecently the coffee shop, Port Java is now putting the coffee in a paper cut and then poring it into your mug. This was a health department issue that caused the change. At least we are saving the lid usage, but not the cup now.

REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Estimate Your Plastic Consumption and Go #PlasticNeutralWhat did you find out about your plastic consumption by using the calculator? What did or didn't surprise you?
Chris Kane 7/17/2019 2:25 AMi wasn't terribly surprised by my outcome, but was very interested in the statistics about the situation in India. It bothers me a great deal when i realize the extent of exploitation that goes on in underdeveloped countries where we seem to think it's our right to send our trash rather than dealing with it here where it's generated.
