oh my gosh - i just can't believe how fast time has gone - i'm super excited to see more actions which will inspire me in the future - today i'm going to message my team members and give them information on the "1 million actions" challenge sponsored by 1 million women so that they can continue their momentum if they choose to do so.  EcoChallenge staff are amazing, aren't they?  somehow with every challenge they continue to find new ways to keep us all going!

good morning!  i'm not sure if it was a member of our team or someone else who's participating in the challenge, but someone mentioned the film "Koyaanisqatsi" which translated from Hopi  means "life out of balance"; the film was released in 1982; at first i wasn't sure what i was watching but after a few minutes it all came into place for me; it's a very moving film; it certainly does show "life out of balance"

Different kind of movie, isn't it? The music is mesmerizing, and is what boosted this film into popularity.

Wow - it's July 26th already................this month has flown by, hasn't it?  What's your most memorable moment so far during this challenge?  I known mine has been the realization that there's more I can do even though I thought I was doing so much already.  It kinda snuck up on me.

Most memorable moment was when I dropped everything to organize opposition to a big apartment complex going in behind my house!

Which documentary did you choose to watch? What did you learn?

I watched the Minimalislm documentary; i thought it was an excellent documentary in that it went into length explaining what minimalism is not.  The background information Ryan & Joshua gave was very helpful in understanding how they both went down this path.

what a beautiful morning here; looking at facebook sometimes makes me sad because i see all the news out there about how close we are to the tipping point on climate change; i have to pull myself away from it because i know that there are still so many things we, as individuals, can do to start turning things around; this challenge is the perfect example of just that; i've recently taken the bull by the horns and i'm totally revamping my eating habits - not to lose weight - but to improve my health, just like the planet!  these challenges impact my life in many unexpected ways which is why i'm always excited when they come up

How could you mitigate issues that may arise if the restaurant does not want to let you use your own containers at first?

Always always be polite - being holier than though doesn't get you anywhere with businesses; i've never had this occur to me personally, but i imagine that i'd not take the leftovers to make the point of how important it is to me.  if the situation was getting a take out order, if i knew before time that they'd refuse me using my own container, i wouldn't order there and let them know why.

Linda, unfortunately i don't think there's much we can do when dealing with the Health Dept;  we should keep an eye on Port St Java and when the ban is lifted have another go at them

Recently the coffee shop, Port Java is now putting the coffee in a paper cut and then poring it into your mug. This was a health department issue that caused the change. At least we are saving the lid usage, but not the cup now.

What did you find out about your plastic consumption by using the calculator? What did or didn't surprise you?

i wasn't terribly surprised by my outcome, but was very interested in the statistics about the situation in India.  It bothers me a great deal when i realize the extent of exploitation that goes on in underdeveloped countries where we seem to think it's our right to send our trash rather than dealing with it here where it's generated.
