One of the things I'm most proud of as a result of this challenge is that I've inspired others in my life to make changes. I am completely ok with being the (anti) trash girl!

What are some of the cases you could make to an employer for why switching to durable dishes and utensils is actually in their best interest as well?

To kick this off, I sent out a survey to my whole team asking about their single-use lunchware. Based on the responses, I will invest in some reusable, washable cutlery for the team so they don't have to bring utensils from home, or so they have an option when they forget their cutlery or want to eat something quick at work without generating trash.

Yesterday, I made a stop at Lush to do some "zero-waste research." It turns out, they have several "naked" products that come package-free! I'm excited to try their toothpaste tabs, hair products, and facial cleanser disks when I run out of those things at home. I also love that you can bring your containers back to Lush and they will recycle them, AND you get a free mask! Does anyone have thoughts on Lush?

I've used quite a few Lush products and liked them. I dislike the mall tho, so I've found similar products that I can get with minimal or no packaging without a trip to the mall 😉

I use Bite and love them. LMK if you want a few to try

Today, I was doing research on sustainable nail polish solutions, and stumbled across the website Tabithas Eve. I just purchased a biodegradable loofah, reusable sponges, and handkerchiefs! I am so excited for my haul!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Cook a Zero-Plastic Waste Meal
Do an inventory of your kitchen to see how many single-use plastics you've used in the past. What are some resuable alternatives to these commonly used products? What would your impact be if you switched all the single-use products from your inventory to reusable?

By purchasing all of my fruits and vegetables from the farmers market, I was able to make a salad with zero plastic waste. I even made my own dressing!

I made this tahini dressing. Not zero waste per se, but I did use ingredients I already had, and I plan to make my own tahini in the future!

What type of dressing did you make?

    Food Minimize Packaging
With the added mindfulness of reducing your packaging, what have you noticed about the amount and type of single use plastics used for packaging when you shop in the grocery store?

I've noticed that so much of my produce still comes in plastic bags, despite my best efforts to bring in reusable bags. With this in mind, I will make an effort to purchase more produce from Pike Place Market, which is very close to my house. Not only will this encourage local farmers and cut down on my single-use plastic waste, it will create valuable memories of my time living downtown. I will also attempt to get my meat there as well, as this also seems to be a barrier to my success.

Great idea! I find that when I shop at a farmer's market, I can also return any packaging to the farmer either on the spot or the next week when I'm back.

I have found that there are many sustainable habits I already have, but many more that I do not. I have so much room to grow and learn in my sustainability journey!
