Angela Fritz 7/31/2019 1:03 PMThis has been an eye-opening and rejuvenating experience for me, and I have set habits that I will maintain and continue to value long after the challenge is over. I have learned, shared, and implemented earth-friendly practices along the way! -
Angela Fritz 7/30/2019 8:41 AMI donated to 4Ocean, a company that takes plastic out of the ocean and recycles it responsibly, in order to continue my efforts to combat pollution, climate change, and plastic waste/consumption. This issue really hits home for me and I will work to continue these habits and focus on this issue after the challenge is over! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Watch a DocumentaryWhich documentary did you choose to watch? What did you learn?
Angela Fritz 7/23/2019 9:34 AMI watched Before the Flood with Leo Dicaprio, and it was completely eye-opening and life altering for me. I learned about the impact of humans on climate change, how much we waste, how much we pollute the air, and the impacts this is already having and going to continue to have on the health of our planet and all it's living species. It broke my heart and called me to action, and since, I have been much more conscious of my impact, tried to reduce my footprint, cut out beef from my diet, and think harder and more thoughtfully about my choices -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal Care Fresh as a DaisyDo some research on the toxic side affects of aluminum deodorant. After reading the side effects, can you think of instances where you may have experienced the side effects from this form of deodorant?
Angela Fritz 7/23/2019 9:31 AMI have definitely experienced clogged pores and irritated skin with aluminum-based deodorants, but over the past year or so I have been experimenting with natural, organic, aluminum-free deodorants with mixed results. Most recently, I tried Native natural deodorants, sensitive skin line and it has been great! I feel fresh, smell good and have no skin irritation--plus, saving precious resources! -
Angela Fritz 7/19/2019 8:06 AMI have always been a lover of nature and all things outdoors, so the environment and planet protection have been on my radar since I was a kid. My cousins tease me because I used to call people out for walking off the hiking trails, because "EROSION!" ;) Plastic and waste consumption has been tugging at me ever since I lived on Hawaii and was heartbroken by the impact that trash and landfills had on the beautiful island. The more I learn the more I feel a strong sense of duty to do my part to combat waste. This challenge has been an amazing, intentional way to set my habits and explore even more about sustainability! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Keep My Community CleanHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?
Angela Fritz 7/19/2019 8:03 AMIt makes me feel a larger sense of connection with my neighbors, as I am doing all of them and myself a favor by making our streets more clean and sustainable! I also wrote a post on our neighborhood facebook feed to let me neighbors know about this new routine of mine and encourage them to all pick up 3 pieces a day too--we could be spotless in no time! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Estimate Your Plastic Consumption and Go #PlasticNeutralWhat did you find out about your plastic consumption by using the calculator? What did or didn't surprise you?
Angela Fritz 7/15/2019 8:39 AMI was shocked that I am estimated to use about 161 lbs of plastic each year--and I scored 13% below the average American! That's so concerning! Also, if everyone continues this way, there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean by 2034--that statistic is heartbreaking and shocking to me. I donated to offset my plastic footprint, and will certainly do all I can to reduce my plastic consumption!-
Stephanie Goulet 7/15/2019 2:33 PMI was surprised by mine too - I'm already pretty conscious so I can't even imagine the amount of others who aren't trying to reduce plastic consumption. It's out of control!
Also, thanks for donating to offset your plastic footprint!

Angela Fritz 7/10/2019 9:06 AMI have enjoyed helping clean up my neighborhood by picking up trash on my morning walk with my dog. It feels good to help out while being active and supporting my planet! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Use Reusable BagsHow difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?
Angela Fritz 7/10/2019 9:04 AMI actually won a pack of reusable bags (ziplocs, grocery bags, produce bags) from a previous eco-challenge, and it has been very fun to put them to good use! I put our disposable plastic bags in a cupboard that is high and not easy to access in order to encourage us to use reusable bags/containers! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Buy Unpackaged ProduceWhy do you think these produce products started amassing so much plastic packaging? Who is the plastic packaging really serving -- the consumer, the producer, or someone else?
Angela Fritz 7/08/2019 8:36 AMThe plastic packaging seems to be serving the consumer mostly, to provide easy, yet unnecessary bundling and carrying of produce. For me, I prefer without plastic, for the obvious reason of protecting the environment, but also because it allows me to more carefully and appropriately choose individual pieces and amounts of produce that is right for me.
