I just took a little more time to plan my trip to make sure I had the reusables I would need while traveling. You never know when you want a coffee and who realistically eats leftovers while traveling??  Just eat out and only order what you’ll actually eat. Good way to save money too.

What is the benefit of using bar soaps or refilling your travel sized containers? Is this an action you think you will keep in your life?

Keeping it!!  I don’t need to purchase more crap!!  I can easily fill my travel bottles from my supple at home and bringing a bar option on the road or plane eliminates the worry that they’ll spill or explode in your bag and eliminates the worry that you have too much liquid for TSA approval!  Ditch the liquid and plastic!

It was easy. Took a few minutes more to pack more food and reusable items but it was worth it and made me happy to know we were doing our part and reducing our waste. We don’t really need all the convenience, we’re just use to it!

Inside the Garbage of the World Is what my husband and I watched. We learned about how much microplastics are in the ocean and how they have been increasing over time. Plastic will never go away and it’s likely in us already thought the food we consume.  It’s also a world wide problem and we need to come together and and help each other. Plastic free is already impossible because it’s here, but we can do our best to not continue on the same fast moving destructive path, and we need to start now in anyway we can.

Currently most of the packaging for toothpaste is plastic. How can you advocate for more alternatives through your purchasing power and influence in community?

i can write a letter to the company I like best and encourage them to use more eco friendly packaging!!  If they don’t make progress, I can switch to a brand that does and share that with friends and family so they can make better decisions too!!

    Food Shop the Bulk Bins
How has buying bulk impacted the quality of the food you receive? Why do you think Western society relies more on prepackaged foods rather than buying in bulk?

    Erica Farrell 7/27/2019 2:56 PM
I wish i could say that it has improved the quality of food I have been consuming but in reality I’m having a hard time finding a bulk source!!  I think it’s easier for sellers to offer prepackaged foods because they last longer on the shelf and the freshness can be guaranteed. We’re all a bit spoiled about getting the freshest, non tampered with food.   We need to change our opinions about this and embrace the BULK!  It’ll be the freshest of we're all buying it

My husband and I have been trying really hard to have a reduced plastic long weekend in ME. I brought as much food from our house, our reusable grocery bags, Tupperware, cups and straws too!  We also brought our compost bin so we could reduce our trash and we’ll bring it home (along with our non redeemable recycling). . We did have to go shopping for some snacks and beer, but we got the least amount of plastic we could manage to find , even searching for 5 minutes for dressing in a glass jar. We also opted for canned seltzer so absolutely 0 drinks in plastic!!  Tonight we’ll settle down for a good plastic documentary after dinner to wrap up the day right!!!  Who says you can't have fun and make progress on vacation!!!  *homemade Piña Colada* whoooooty hoooo!

First trip to the grocery store this month for my husband and I!  Yup, it’s been a while. I went hungry, so I’m sure I could’ve done better but I did my best to get as many of our regular items with the least plastic packaging as possible. It wasn’t easy and the snack and cleaning isle were making my head spin with plastic.  I felt like I made some small wins though: rice in boxes, cans of chicken broth, cans of juice and drinks, boxes of candy, bar soap in cardboard and I only got one vege in a plastic container (all the plastic bags that my veges are in I have reused since last JULY). Felt pretty good but know I have plenty of room to improve!!!

Got my dropps and I’m going to try them out tonight on some dirty laundry. Already impressed on the size and material of the packaging. Check it out (my leatherman there for size reference)

I consume less than the average American but a lot more than I should!  The amount of plastic in feminine care really bothers me so that may be a new aspect of plastic free I look into.  free us women from relying on plastic!!!
