Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Pets Pet Waste
By composting your pet waste, you are turning waste into nutrients to feed the soil. In what other ways can you turn waste into a resource in your life?

I can repurpose items I have already used. I reuse a lot of buckets at my job for other purposes. These buckets cannot be recycled and would have to be thrown away. I try to use as many as possible for any and all things. I can also try to recycle items even if it means taking them to a store such as Target that recycles item numbers that my city/county does not.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Lifestyle Travel Eating
Was this action easy or difficult to do? How did it change your travel experience?

It was very easy. I went to the store and found the small containers to put my liquids in. It was much easier to out them in reusable bottles rather than trying to bring my big ones with me. I had to plan a little bit in advance to buy the small bottles and fill them, but now I will not need to fill them again. It also saves me from having to fill them again for a while at least.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Use Reusable Water Bottles
Using the links provided, investigate the bottling practices of water corporations. There have been many cases where the water rights of the local people have been violated or even completely disregarded when a corporation decides to bottle water from a particular water source. How can you advocate for those who have been harmed by this bottling process?

I can advocate for those in harm by first trying to only purchase water, if doing so, from companies that properly source it. Also I can advocate via social media, contacting local officials, and educating friends and family about what is happening so they also avoid purchasing water from these companies as well.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Family Glass Bottle Baby
How can you take your commitment to sustainable living beyond yourself and your family? How can you, personally, work toward broader change?

I can speak to coworkers and friends about how using reusable and plastic free items can help the environment and save some money in the long run. I also try to post ideas on social media for others to see. I can actively speak with others to try to have a positive effect on others.

Picked up some food to go today with my containers, the restaurant have the people in front of me a plastic bag for their food. I wish they would ask if they would need one because they are going to go home and throw it away immediately

Refusing plastic bags and straws is starting to come second hand. I have refused so many more bags than I thought I used. Definitely going to continue the trend even after the month

Was out to dinner last night and was plastic free. Waitress offered straws and a bag for left over food. Decline both and explained why. Waitress was very understanding

Ordered and put together a shed yesterday. Not sure why the parts needed were not only wrapped in plastic but they were double wrapped. Not sure why this still happens as I have seen other companies use cardboard or paper for the parts.

I switched my toothbrush to a bamboo one and started using charcoal tooth paste. I was skeptical that they wouldn't have cleaned my teeth as well but they feel as clean as they usually do. I guess I'll find out at the dentist soon

More doom and gloom. Picked all 3 of my trash items up directly in between 2 dumpsters. Not sure if they blew out or where just litter. Hopefully will try to convince others to deposit trash in proper bins
