Margaret's actions
Food
Use Reusable Containers
I will only use reusable containers instead of single-use plastic storage items (such as plastic wrap, single-use sandwich bags).

Make Your Own
I will try new recipe(s) or food preparation method(s) each day, such as canning, pickling, making yogurt, or baking granola bars or bread.
Community
Volunteer in my Community
I will volunteer 3 hour(s) in my community.
Food
Minimize Packaging
I will purchase food items with the least amount of packaging.
Food
Buy Unpackaged Produce
I will purchase produce items without plastic packaging.
Food
Advocate For More Food Packaging Options
I will advocate for alternatives to single use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, or work.
Pets
Try a Pet Shampoo Bar
I will replace my pet's shampoo with an eco-friendly shampoo bar.
Lifestyle
Travel Toiletries
If traveling, I will reuse my old travel tubes to refill with my soaps or only bring bar soaps with me in a TSA approved reusable quart sized bag.
Lifestyle
Travel Eating
If traveling, I will bring my own airplane snacks and eat at local restaurants to avoid take-out containers.
Pets
All Natural Pet Toys
I will give my pets natural alternatives to toys like femur bones and antlers, canvas, natural rubber, hemp, rope or cotton toys. Or I will make our own toys from recycled items found in our home!
Community
Keep My Community Clean
I will pick up 5 piece(s) of litter each day.
Participant Feed

Margaret Arason 7/31/2019 10:20 AMMade my own challenge today was making some dilled beans with the abundant supply that my garden is producing. I used recycled pasta sauce jars. -
Margaret Arason 7/31/2019 10:16 AMThis has been a very rewarding experience. I hope to continue all of the challenges throughout the year. And I hope next year more people participate in this challenge! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPets Try a Pet Shampoo BarIn what ways does your pet make your life happier, more interesting, or more rewarding?
Margaret Arason 7/31/2019 10:13 AMHaving dogs enriches our lives both physically and emotionally. They keep us active with long walks every day regardless of the weather! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Travel EatingWas this action easy or difficult to do? How did it change your travel experience?
Margaret Arason 7/31/2019 10:08 AMWe travel with two dogs so we often need to do take out for some meals. I travel with 2 plates, 2 glasses, 2 cloth napkins and real cutlery. If we do order in, we do not require disposable eating utensils and this does help cut down the use of plastic. -
Margaret Arason 7/30/2019 8:31 AMNo plastic involved with these fresh picked vegetables!-
Margaret Arason 7/31/2019 10:14 AMYes, Hannah Carey, those are purple beans. First year that I have grown them and they are amazing. They turn vivid green when you steam them! -
Hannah Carey 7/31/2019 10:02 AMAre those purple beans?? :D Amazing!

Margaret Arason 7/29/2019 2:17 PMLocal ice cream company has the right idea....a glass jar for ice cream with a refundable deposit when you take it back to be reused. So much better than plastic wrapped cardboard containers. -
Margaret Arason 7/28/2019 10:07 AMNo more plastic clam shells for this house. If I cannot purchase berries in recycled paper boxes, I won’t buy them! -
Margaret Arason 7/26/2019 11:02 AMHaving a vegetable garden certainly reduces the use of plastic bags! You simply go out and pick! -
Margaret Arason 7/25/2019 7:58 AMBy picking up litter on my daily walks, I have noticed that the areas in which I walk are much cleaner. One person can make a difference! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPets All Natural Pet ToysIn what ways is supplying your pet with all natural pet toys better for your pet, better for you, and better for the environment?
Margaret Arason 7/25/2019 7:56 AMMy dogs love gnawing on antlers and bones. These are both natural products that are readily available. Bonus is that they also help to keep the dogs’ teeth clean.
